Between the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers, garage doors have to cope with steep blocks, garages added decades after the house, heritage streets and damp river air. Premium Garage Doors repairs and installs doors across Ryde (2112), Gladesville (2111) and Hunters Hill (2110), Monday to Saturday from 7am to 6pm. A made-to-measure sectional typically costs $1,800 to $4,500 installed and a cedar door from about $4,000, with GST included.

What door fits an under-house garage in Ryde?
Ryde was built across hills, so many post-war homes have a garage tucked under the house with a low ceiling and a steep drive. A standard sectional door needs headroom above the opening for its tracks and spring. Where there is a little room, a low-headroom track kit lets a sectional still fit. Where there is almost none, a roller door that coils into a compact drum above the opening is usually the answer. We measure headroom, side room and depth before recommending either, and set the opener up for the slope of the drive.
Fitting doors to odd-sized openings
In Gladesville and the older parts of Ryde, many garages were added to Federation and interwar homes long after they were built, so the openings are rarely a standard size. Doors can be made to measure, but the opening matters as much as the door: a lintel that has sagged or a frame that is out of square will stop any door sealing and running properly. We check both before quoting, and tell you up front if anything needs fixing first.
Heritage streets in Hunters Hill and Gladesville
Hunters Hill is one of Sydney's oldest suburbs, and much of it sits in heritage conservation areas. Fast-track complying development does not apply in conservation areas or to heritage items in NSW, and changing how a street-facing door looks may need consent from Hunter's Hill Council or the City of Ryde. Check your property's heritage status before you choose a new style. Cedar and timber-look doors, and panel profiles that echo the period of the house, are the usual choices, and we can supply specifications and photos if council asks for them.
Does river humidity affect garage doors?
It does, gradually. Homes close to the Parramatta and Lane Cove rivers sit in damper air, which speeds up rust on springs, cables and fixings, and on the Hunters Hill peninsula there is a touch of salt as well. A yearly service with lubrication and a hardware check catches corrosion early, coated or galvanised parts last longer when replacements are due, and timber doors need their finish kept in good condition. Our coastal garage door guide explains which parts hold up best in salty or damp air.
Single garage, narrow opening: roller or sectional?
Many original Ryde homes have a single narrow opening. A roller door is the space saver and the budget choice at $900 to $2,500 installed. A sectional costs $1,800 to $4,500 installed but seals better, can be insulated and runs more quietly, which matters if the garage doubles as a workshop or sits under a bedroom. If headroom is tight, the roller usually wins; if you have the room, the sectional is the better long-term door.
Duplex rebuilds: getting the garage right
Duplexes and dual occupancies are replacing older homes street by street in Ryde. Two garages side by side need matching doors: the same panel profile, colour and opener, so the facade reads as one design and neither side is noisier than the other. Involve us before the slab is poured or at framing stage, so the openings, headroom and power points suit the doors you want.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need council approval for a new garage door in Hunters Hill?
Possibly. Much of Hunters Hill is within heritage conservation areas, and changes to how a street-facing door looks may need approval from Hunter's Hill Council. Check your property's heritage status first; we can supply door specifications and photos if council asks.
Can you supply matching doors for a duplex in Ryde?
Yes. We supply and install matched doors and openers for both sides of a duplex. Involving us early means the openings, headroom and power points are right before the doors arrive.
